Volunteers Needed for a Study Evaluating the Effects of Blueberries on Cardiovascular Health in Postmenopausal Women

The Functional Foods & Human Health Laboratory in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University is seeking volunteers to participate in a study investigating the ability of blueberries to improve cardiovascular health in postmenopausal women with elevated blood pressure or stage 1-hypertension.
Who can participate?
- Postmenopausal women aged 45-65 years
- Elevated blood pressure or stage 1-hypertension (systolic blood pressure 120-139 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure < 90 mmHg)
- Exclusion criteria apply and will be evaluated through a phone and in-person screening
- Measures of cardiovascular health including blood pressure and vascular function
What is involved?
Participants will be asked to consume a randomly assigned treatment daily for 12-weeks (22 g freeze-dried blueberry or placebo powder). Participants will complete initial screening tests and qualified participants will undergo cardiovascular testing and provision of blood and urine samples.
Involvement in the study will last 3-4 months and involvement will consist of 5 visits over this period. Participants will receive financial compensation of up to $200 for their time. The study will take place on the CSU campus in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition and in the Human Performance Clinical/Research Laboratory.
