Sydney Holmes is the November 2022 KRNC Student Spotlight!

Sydney Holmes is from Auburn, Alabama, and is a second-year master’s student in Human Nutrition at CSU.

Sydney originally went to school for horticulture which has been very helpful in the nutrition field. She is interested in the gut microbiota and how it affects overall health, as well as many aspects of community nutrition. For her research, she is working with the Functional Foods and Human Health Laboratory where she is investigating the effect of microgreens on aspects of gastrointestinal health. Sydney is also involved with the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) where she assists with curriculum development for EFNEP classes. In the future, she plans to work in community nutrition where she can help people have better access to quality nutrition.

Sydney remarks, “My favorite part of the KRNC is the ability to observe registered dietitians in counseling sessions. The counseling process is definitely a skill and getting to observe is so important when preparing to become a dietitian.”
