KRNC Spotlight

Alysse Gibbons is a Colorado native, originally from Loveland. She is a second-year master’s student set to graduate this upcoming May.

Alysse is a member of Chris Melby’s Nutrition and Metabolic Fitness Lab. Currently, the lab is researching the what beneficial effects of beta-glucans, a soluble fiber found in oat bran, might have on the consumption of a high-fructose, high-fat meal. During her career, Alysse plans to apply for a dietetic internship to become an RD and gain experience in critical care. Then eventually, she would like to obtain her Ph.D.

KRNC Practicum

In Alysse’s time working in the KRNC, her favorite parts were shadowing the dietitians and observing the different styles of counseling. She stated, “I also loved the community outreach projects that I was able to be a part of, including a presentation on preschoolers and picky eating, a health fair, and participating in the cooking classes. I feel that the hands-on experiences I have gained were so vital to my learning; it’s something you will not get in any classroom.”

The Kendall Reagan Nutrition Center is in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, part of CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.
