From football festivities to award ceremonies, this fall’s activities are teeming with engaged alumni from Colorado State University’s College of Health and Human Sciences. Distinguished Alumni Awards

The CSU Alumni Association presented the Distinguished Alumni Awards at an October 12 ceremony kicking off Homecoming and Family Weekend. Two CHHS alumni were honored.

Patricia McKlem (B.S., food science and nutrition, ’70) is the 2023 College of Health and Human Sciences Honor Alumna. McKlem began her career as a dietitian and advanced to leadership roles in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health care system, where she earned high honors for her service as medical center and network director overseeing systems in Arizona, New Mexico, and West Texas. McKlem has served the college on its Executive Leadership Council and established the Pat McKlem Medical Nutrition Therapy Lab. Learn more about McKlem’s career journey and impact.

Karen Blach (B.S., human development and family studies, ’80) and her husband Randy Blach (B.S., animal science, ’80) were presented with the Distinguished Athletics Award. Karen taught elementary school in the Douglas County School District and Randy is CEO of Cattle Fax. The couple are lifetime members of the Alumni Association and have been longtime supporters of CSU Athletics and the College of Agricultural Sciences.

Homecoming 5K

Homecoming 5K 2023 Race LogoThe 43rd annual Homecoming Race sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Sciences took place Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. Beginning and ending on the historic CSU Oval, the race welcomed participants of all ages and abilities both in person and virtually.

Managing the 5K this year is Green Events, owned by Lisa Sinclair (B.S. exercise and sport science, ’00; M.B.A. ’09). Race sponsors include many longtime supporters including alumni-owned businesses. Learn more about the event’s many alumni sponsors.

Krazy Karl’s Pizza hosts away game watch parties

When the Rams play out of town, the CSU Alumni Association has local fans covered, thanks to Nate Haas (family and consumer sciences, ’05). Haas owns Krazy Karl’s Pizza, the Official Away Game Sponsor, which is hosting football watch parties at its location at 2620 S. Timberline Road in Fort Collins. Learn about game watch parties hosted locally and by Ram Networks from coast to coast.

Leadership in Social Work Speaker Series features Kim Jordan

What Kim Jordan learned in social work classes at CSU in the 1980s shaped her expertise at the intersection of business, the environment, and community. Jordan, co-founder, chair of the board, and former CEO of New Belgium Brewing and member of the CSU System Board of Governors, will share her insights and experience in conversation with students on October 27 at the Leadership in Social Work Speaker Series presented by the Center for Lifelong Learning, Outreach, and Education in the School of Social Work and sponsored by the Fornaro Family Leadership Program.

CHHS Alumni Awards nominations open

College of Health & Human Sciences Alumni Awards GraphicThe College of Health and Human Sciences is accepting nominations for its annual CHHS Alumni Awards through November 1. The awards recognize alumni of the College who have distinguished themselves and brought honor to Colorado State University through their career achievements, community service, and volunteer efforts. The awards are sponsored by the CHHS Executive Leadership Council. Nominees will be considered for the CHHS Outstanding Alumna/Alumnus Award and the CHHS Emerging Leader Alumna/Alumnus Award, which will be presented to honorees in the spring.

The Departments of Human Development and Family Studies and Health and Exercise Science and the Schools of Education and Social Work are part of CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.
