Even as a 4-year-old, Litzy Lastra knew she wanted to attend college. Now this first-generation, outstanding graduate in family and consumer sciences at Colorado State University has achieved her life-long dream. Along the way, she had to overcome many obstacles including her father’s debilitating bout with COVID-19.
As a first-year student in high school, Alexandria “Lexi” Walker’s father was diagnosed with the rare autoimmune disease sarcoidosis, which affects lungs and lymph nodes. The cancer-like affliction required steroid treatment, which made his teeth deteriorate.
Eric Pildner is an outstanding graduate in Colorado State University’s School of Social Work after enduring hardship and working hard to earn his degree.
Building on her personal experiences as a first-generation student at Colorado State University, Janelle Mobley developed a passion for working with first-year college students in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies.
In the realm of industrial controls and automation, Steve (’75, ’77) and Dan (’02) Malyszko have brewed the right recipe for multi-generational engineering success in the fermentation technology realm.
While a graduate student, Lindsey Weiler helped create the award-winning Campus Connections program. Her mentorship research, mental health advocacy, and leadership are impacting communities, practitioners, and youth facing adversity.
Amy Powell (’06, ’21) combines her passions and CSU education to lead innovative professional development trainings for the construction industry.
During the 2022-23 academic year, we are highlighting one Colorado State University student or alum from each of Colorado’s 64 counties. The Centennial State’s land grant university has a connection to the diverse lands and people from the counties of Moffat to Baca, Montezuma to Sedgwick and everywhere in between.
