The Kendall Reagan Nutrition Center is proud to announce Alexandra Peyton as our Student Spotlight for May.
This May, we are celebrating May 2020 graduate and practicum student Alexandra Peyton! She is graduating with her degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. While she is originally from St. Charles, Illinois, she has enjoyed her time spent in Fort Collins over the past few years.
During her free time, she is gaining experience as a Relief Team Lead and Nutrition Assistant at Poudre Valley Hospital’s Nutrition Department. This role has been especially interesting to her, since she is interested in medical nutrition therapy in a clinical setting.
After graduating, she plans on attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas to obtain her master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and Dietetic Internship. Following her 2021 graduation and becoming a Registered Dietitian, Peyton hopes to find an opportunity to work in an oncology-specific medical center. There, she will be able to help individuals who are afflicted with cancer navigate their disease through their diet. Her long-term career goal is to potentially open up her own practice where she can help a diverse population manage their health through nutrition.
At the KRNC, Peyton enjoys working with the Registered Dietitians, “They have given me opportunities to grow my professional opinion through writing a blog, shadowing client appointments, and constructing a cooking class.” She believes that, while all of these parts are equally important, her favorite portion was the shadowing experience. Throughout her classes at CSU, she has learned how to use motivational interviewing and smart goals. Nevertheless, the real-life practice in the practicum program is something you cannot receive from a textbook. Congratulations on graduating, Alexandra! We can’t wait to watch what you accomplish in the future
