KRNC Student Spotlight
Scott Wrigley is originally from Illinois but is currently a first year graduate student here at CSU. He works in the Integrative Cardiovascular Physiology Lab. Currently, they are looking at the mechanisms within the interactions of the microbiome, nutrition, and cardiovascular disease.
Coming back to school, Wrigley’s goal was to earn his master’s and Registered Dietician Nutritionist credentials and then go on to start a business to include personal training, athletic coaching, and nutrition counseling. The goal was to focus on improving public health outcomes in a scientific manner. However, since working in the lab, it has fueled his passion for the basic science side of nutrition and mechanisms of disease. He says he could also see himself working in a lab full time doing research.
Although he is not exactly sure where he’ll end up, he remarks, “I am lucky to be in a position of having two interests in the field. When I graduate I will have a master’s in community nutrition paired with basic science lab experience.”
Wrigley says, “My favorite part about working in the KRNC is getting to shadow Kalyn and Shelby. I really enjoy learning and challenging my knowledge in a classroom setting. However, theory and discussion only go so far. It is great to be able to see nutrition education and counseling theory put into practice in real practitioner-client interactions. As students, we are very lucky to have this resource at our disposal.”
