Deniz Besiktepe, a Ph.D. student in Construction Engineering and Management, presented a poster at the Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting this January, entitled, “Operation and Maintenance Recommendations for Emergency Escape Ramps located in Mountain States.” Besiktepe’s presented study is part of a research project jointly conducted at Colorado State University by the Department of Construction Management and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
The objective of this project was to develop a set of design and operational recommendations that could reduce the frequency of rollover, jackknife, and rollback end positions for trucks entering emergency escape ramps.
“Presenting a poster at the TRB 2020, 99th Annual Meeting was a great opportunity to represent CSU and the CM department at the premier event of transportation research in the United States,” Besiktepe said.
The Transportation Research Board (TRB) annual meeting is the largest international event of its kind, with transportation professionals and researchers afforded the opportunity of learning new development in transportation research, practice, policy, and innovation. TRB celebrates its 100th year on November 11, 2020. This year’s TRB 99th Annual Meeting, held Jan. 12-16, introduced the concept of the TRB Centennial Celebration. The annual meeting hosted more than 5000 presentations and 200 exhibitors in The Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
Besiktepe noted that being among transportation professionals and researchers enabled her to not only get feedback on the research, but also provided her with the opportunity to learn more about the latest developments.
“My attendance at this conference gave me access to other presentations from many other institutions, allowing me to gain valuable information about what other researchers are looking for, and where they are focusing their efforts,” Besiktepe said. “I would like to thank the CSU CM Graduate Committee for awarding my presentation with the CM Graduate Student Conference Travel Award.”
The Department of Construction Management is part of CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.
