College of Health and Human Sciences honors scholarship donors, recipients

On December 9, students and scholarship donors gathered for the annual College of Health and Human Sciences Scholarship Brunch at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins. This year, the College awarded 285 scholarships. See student and donor photos on our Facebook page.

Watch the video above to hear more from scholarship donor John W. Haefeli, as well as some of our scholarships recipients:

  • Heather Nereson, Food Science and Human Nutrition
  • Marisa Gallardo, Human Development and Family Studies
  • Emma Kopatich, Design and Merchandising

Savanah Cheatham, a sophomore majoring in nutrition and food science, opened the program by telling her scholarship story.

“On May 1, 2015, the last possible day for incoming students to confirm their acceptance into CSU, I fully committed to becoming a Ram,” she said. “My reluctant acceptance was driven by my uncertainty of where I wanted to end up, what I wanted to study, and how I was going to pay for it.”

Today, Cheatham is the vice president of the Dean’s Leadership Council, a volunteer with the Invictus Initiative, a student employee in the CHHS Dean’s office, and a recipient of the Florence R. Shepardson Memorial Scholarship.

“Receiving scholarships means so much,” Cheatham said. “College is so expensive, so having a scholarship is motivating and makes earning your education possible.”

In addition to recognizing scholarship donors, the College also awarded three alumni awards at the event. The awards recognize alumni of the College who have distinguished themselves and brought honor to CSU through their career achievements, community service, and volunteer efforts.
